Russian Railways is testing the blockchain technology in providing citizens with preferential travel.
The head of the Pension Fund of Russia (PFR), Anton Drozdov, in an interview with TASS reported that within the framework of the Forum of Social Innovation of the Regions, recently held in Moscow, his department signed an agreement with Russian Railways (RZD) on granting preferential transportation to citizens. At the same time, he said, at the moment, Russian Railways, the FIU and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation are conducting a pilot project based on blockchain technology in this area.
“In real time, when selling a discount ticket, RZD forms a register of persons who have taken advantage of a reduced fare. We confirm the status of a citizen as a person entitled to preferential travel, and the Ministry of Labor makes payment for travel.
Thanks to our agreement, the procedure for buying tickets for beneficiaries will be simplified. Using information from the FIU, the system will immediately receive information whether the buyer has the right to preferential travel, and provide tickets. ”, Explained Drozdov.
Drozdov is also convinced that in 2019 a pilot project with the North-Western Suburban Passenger Company will be completed, and from next year the purchase of discount tickets will be available in all directions of Russian Railways.
Recall that at the end of last year, the FIU stated that they considered the transfer to the blockchain system of the individual pension capital (IPC) as a premature step, however they allow its use in pilot projects.
